Acciona Energía reported that it has completed the design, implementation and commissioning in Chile of a network digitalization project based on artificial intelligence that will expand transmission capacity in the southern zone of the National Electric System (SEN). The company announced in a statement that the initiative corresponds to a system called Automatic Transfer Control.

According to the statement, the system will allow the incorporation of an additional 239 GWh of wind power generation into the grid, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 100,000 homes. It also indicated that the increased injection of renewable energy will help reduce the consumption of thermoelectric energy and its polluting emissions, reinforcing the positive impact of this solution on the electric system.

The solution incorporates digital and communications technologies that will allow for the optimization of the Mulchén-Santa Clara 2x220 kV and Santa Clara-Charrúa 2x220 kV lines, located in the La Araucanía and Biobío regions, operated by Transelec, Ferrovial, SAESA, CELEO and Transmisora Sur Andes.

The project also involves the generation companies Enel Green Power and WPD, and was validated through advanced simulations by the Universidad de Santiago de Chile and the National Electric Coordinator.
