With an investment of US$114 million, the new SCL03 data center adds to an expanding ecosystem. The company, backed by Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure, is already preparing two new projects that will quintuple its capacity in the country.
Demand for digital infrastructure is continuing to grow in Chile. Latin American data center and connectivity provider Ascenty has inaugurated its third data center in the country, consolidating its presence in one of the region’s most dynamic markets. The new SCL03 center, located in Quilicura, Santiago Metropolitan Region, has a capacity of 16 megawatts (MW) and a surface area of 8,000 m², dedicated entirely to large-scale clients such as major cloud service providers and digital platforms.
“Chile has consolidated its position as a strategic hub for digital infrastructure in Latin America. The regulatory environment, energy availability, and growing demand for cloud services make it a key market for our growth,” explained Marcos Siqueira, Chief Revenue Officer & Head of Strategy at Ascenty.
The new SCL03 data center will host more than 1,000 racks distributed across five data halls, and will operate under high energy efficiency and physical security standards. All Ascenty data centers operate with 100% renewable energy, are carbon neutral, and use closed-loop cooling systems with virtually zero water consumption.
Its infrastructure is fully neutral and interconnected with the main cloud providers and internet exchange points. In collaboration with PIT Chile, Santiago’s internet exchange point, Ascenty offers clients a connection that improves quality and reduces the cost of local internet traffic. This partnership strengthens the available connectivity ecosystem, allowing direct access to cloud and telecommunications service providers. Both initiatives reinforce Ascenty’s commitment to democratizing access to information and neutral interconnection.
“Our focus is to deliver the best possible infrastructure with world-class connectivity, so that clients who trust us can build their own solutions on top of it,” said Pablo Bonino, Vice President of Supply Chain, Sourcing & Alliances at Ascenty and director on the board of the Chilean Data Center Association.
But that’s not all. The company also announced that it has received approval to build two new data centers on a second campus, located just 700 meters from the current one. These are projects SCL04 and SCL05, which are expected to enter operation between 2027 and 2028, with a combined investment of US$1.0 billion and a total capacity of 150 MW.
Ascenty has operated in Chile since 2020, when it inaugurated its first data center in Santiago. With the new SCL03 data center, Campus 01 has reached 42 MW of installed capacity across more than 51,000 m². The company already has 38 data centers in operation or under construction in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile—all interconnected by more than 2,500 miles of proprietary fiber optic network.
Its parent company, US-based Digital Realty, is the world’s largest data center operator, with more than 310 facilities globally. It is also supported by Brookfield Infrastructure, a Canadian fund specializing in physical assets, which boosts the group’s financial strength.
