Access World, a company with operations in over 30 countries, has completed the acquisition of El Origen to strengthen its expansion in Latin America.
The Italian-founded global logistics, warehousing, and distribution company Access World has finalized the purchase of Chilean firm El Origen, which specializes in land transportation and warehousing of commercial cargo, particularly copper concentrate, in the northern and central regions of Chile.
According to Diario Financiero, Access World stated that the acquisition serves a dual purpose. First, it seeks to enter the Chilean market, «the world’s largest copper producer, by leveraging El Origen’s local knowledge and experience.»
Second, the company explained that the move also enables El Origen to expand its global reach, allowing it to diversify into new industries and types of cargo — both from Chile to the world and vice versa.
Investment in Logistics in Chile
«It is essential for Chile’s economy to build efficient logistics bridges that enhance the competitiveness of our exports and imports. Access World’s international expertise in warehousing and transportation will be key to optimizing the handling of various types of cargo, from copper concentrate to project cargo for large-scale mining operations and energy solutions like BESS batteries,» said Tomás Ecclefield, General Manager of Access World Chile — the new name of El Origen.
He added, «The export and import sector is vital to our economy. A new player with the capacity to compete is always important and benefits producers, as it drives greater efficiency in logistics operations and allows for the adoption of best practices and technologies that may not currently be used in the local market.»
Outlook and investment plans
By 2025, Access World plans to consolidate its presence in Chile, expand its export and import cargo operations, and contribute to greater competitiveness and operational efficiency in the national logistics sector. While the exact investment amount for the next five years has not yet been disclosed, the company is already working on various projects with «key industry stakeholders.»
Access World’s strategy will continue to focus on the mining sector and the development of integrated logistics solutions.
Regarding future acquisitions in Chile, the company indicated that there are no immediate plans, but it remains open to evaluating opportunities that support its expansion, especially in strategic areas such as mining and integrated logistics.
