Chile consolidates its position as a food innovation leader, launching the 5th edition of the Food Innovation Catalog. This year, it features 50 products and services shaping the industry’s future.
In the global context of booming demand for healthy, sustainable and technologically advanced foods, Chile has responded with innovative solutions that address these trends and position the country competitively on the international market.
The recent release of the 2024 Food Innovation Catalog, 5th edition, demonstrates the Chilean food sector’s commitment to sustainability, science and technology, which generates new business and investment opportunities.
The 2024 Food Innovation Catalog, launched at the Espacio Food&Service International Fair, is a valuable tool that compiles the year’s 50 most innovative products and services.
The initiative, led by the Transforma Alimentos Strategic Program, in partnership with Nutrisco and Espacio Food&Service, recognizes and promotes the Chilean food industry’s best innovations in categories like State-of-the-Art Food, Agri-FoodTech, Sustainable Systems and Zero Waste and Culinary Heritage.
At the event, José Miguel Benavente, Executive Vice-President of the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO), highlighted the potential impact of these innovations on the country’s productive structure and its international visibility: «These products and processes enable us to expand our capabilities and show the world what Chile has to offer in terms of knowledge, science and technology,» he said.
Among the most outstanding innovations were Asinolat, the Next Generation Food winner, and Bioketen Innovation, which led the Agri-Food Tech category. These, and projects like Atacama Biomaterials and Stefymar, offer disruptive solutions that align Chile with global trends in sustainability and advanced technology-based food production.
Business opportunities
Chile’s food innovation boom represents a breakthrough for the local industry and drives substantial business opportunities for investors.
According to ProChile, five companies featured in the catalog, including Biome Resources and Liva Company, earned recognition for their high export potential, opening new international doors for Chilean products.
In a global market that seeks healthier, sustainable and safer food, Chile has positioned itself as a leader in innovation, making it an attractive place for food sector investment.
Furthermore, nearly 60% of the companies featured in the 2024 catalog are from outside metropolitan Santiago, and many are less than four years old, indicating a growing and dynamic startup ecosystem.
Through this type of initiative, the Transforma Alimentos program actively fosters ties between private, public and knowledge players, promoting research, development and innovation (R&D&I) as a fundamental approach to facing the industry’s sustainability and competitiveness challenges.
