With an investment of US$30 million, the Swiss multinational expanded its plant in Teno, Maule Region.
Nestlé Purina has inaugurated the most advanced pet food distribution center in Latin America in Teno, Maule Region. With an investment of US$30 million (CHF 24 million), the new distribution center will serve as a regional hub targeting both domestic and international markets.
In a press release, Nestlé announced the expansion of its Nestlé Purina distribution center in Teno, calling it “the most modern of its kind within Nestlé Purina Latin America.”
Located next to the Purina pet food plant that initiated operations in 2018—where brands like Dog Chow, Cat Chow, Doko, Gati, and Purina Excellent are manufactured—the new distribution center has a total surface area of 25,000 m², more than double its original size.
The expansion will increase Nestlé Purina’s national logistics capacity by 60%.
“The expansion of the distribution center is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the company’s logistics infrastructure in Chile and Latin America,” Nestlé said.
With a surface area that “has more than doubled,” the new facility incorporates key improvements in operational efficiency and sustainability. These include shuttle rack systems to optimize storage, technology for automated stretch film application, smart lighting to reduce energy consumption, and lithium-ion battery charging systems, which could cut emissions associated with operations by up to 65%.
Nestlé also noted that the center will “enable faster deliveries, better preservation of product quality and freshness, and facilitate exports to neighboring countries like Peru, positioning Nestlé Purina’s Teno plant as a key logistics hub in the region.”
The pet food industry in Chile is expected to grow 37% over the next five years, driven by increasing pet ownership—now exceeding 12 million—and the ongoing premiumization of the category.
Marcelo Filippo, Vice President of Supply Chain for Nestlé Purina LATAM, said the hub was the result of “coordinated efforts by multiple teams: engineering, planning, operations, and logistics.”
Meanwhile, Teno’s mayor, Wildo Farías, emphasized the significance of the investment for the municipality, highlighting its contribution to economic and social development. “This investment is a clear indication that we’re continuing to move forward together, building a better future for our residents,” he said.
