The owner of the company and the seventh richest man in the world, Larry Ellison himself announced the news at an event in San Francisco. Chile is the second Latin American country, after Brazil, to which the company is making a strong commitment.
Oracle, the international technology services giant, has announced that it plans to install its next data center in Chile. This will be its second in Latin America, after the center it has in Sao Paulo.
The news was announced by the company’s owner and founder, the famous billionaire Larry Ellison, at the Oracle Open World 2019 event in San Francisco, California. Ellison is the seventh richest person in the world, with a fortune of US$65,000 million, according to updated information from Forbes.
One of the company’s objectives is to surpass the infrastructure for cloud services that Amazon has around the world (through Amazon Web Services). Ellison said that, with the new data centers that Oracle has announced in several countries (20 in total), it will have 36 of these regional facilities as compared to Amazon’s 25 centers.
Although no specific date has been announced, Ellison indicated in his presentation that the company’s new data center should be in operation before the end of 2020.
He also noted that this data center will offer the same services that Oracle provides around the world, including the new Oracle Autonomous Database or Gen 2 Cloud, a system that is administered automatically using artificial intelligence to avoid human error.
“We are delighted to announce that, in 2020, Chile will be one of the regions where Oracle will launch its Gen 2 Cloud Infrastructure in order to provide better support for our customers on their road to innovation. This infrastructure will mean high performance and high levels of service to meet the needs of companies in Chile as they migrate their data-intensive commercial applications to the Oracle cloud,” said Sandra Guazzotti, Senior Vice President Multi Country Region, Oracle Latin America.
Vinicius Dias, Country Managing Director at Oracle Chile, drew attention to the characteristics of the new data center in the country. “The Oracle Gen 2 Cloud infrastructure offers advanced technology that includes applications based on artificial intelligence, integrated machine learning security and the Oracle Autonomous Database , the first database to adjust, update and correct automatically when a security threat is detected,” he said.
