Chile surpassed the 10 million mark for 5G mobile connections, reaching 10,161,957, according to Forbes Chile.

In Chile, 5G connections have grown by 62.3% over the past 12 months, a trend the Telecommunications Undersecretary attributes to increased market dynamism following the entry of a new operator in this technology: Claro-VTR. This is in addition to steady growth from other companies already operating in the sector and user demand for higher-quality mobile plans and high-end smartphones.

According to the figures, the mobile 5G data traffic market is dominated by Entel (39.1%), Wom (26.2%), Claro-VTR (18.7%), and Movistar (15.7%). Meanwhile, the mobile subscribers market is split as follows: Entel (34.31%), Movistar (23.09%), Claro (21%), and Wom (20.62%).

Most affordable fixed internet in Latin America

A recent JP Morgan study highlights Chile as the Latin American country with the most affordable broadband internet, priced at US$3.12 per 100 Mbps—lower than in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Mexico and Guatemala.

Fiber-optic connections have grown rapidly across the country (18.9% over the last 12 months), accounting for 84.1% of all broadband connections, underscoring users’ preference for high-speed networks.

Among households with broadband, 66.4% (7 out of 10) have connections ranging from 500 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps—speeds sufficient for telemedicine, teleworking, gaming and high-quality home entertainment without interruptions (latency).

Broadband market share is as follows: Movistar (27.5%), Claro-VTR (26.8%), Mundo (20.9%), Entel (10.2%), GTD (6.2%), and other companies (8.4%). Meanwhile, the fiber-optic market share is split between Movistar (32.6%), Mundo (24.8%), VTR (12.8%), Entel (10.8%), Claro (4%) and GTD (2.6%).
