Mercado Libre, the e-commerce platform, announced its plans for 2026 in Chile.

President José Antonio Kast attended the event, where the Argentine company’s Vice President for Andean LatAm, Alan Meyer, confirmed that the company will make its largest-ever investment (US$750 million) in our country.

Mr. Meyer also announced that the company will begin hiring for 1,200 positions, on top of its current workforce of 3,800, bringing the total to 5,000 employees by the end of the year.

Commitment to Chile

“We have committed to Chile. This is not the first time we have done this; we have been doing it consistently, but now more than ever. It is no coincidence; we are very hopeful and confident about what can happen here,” said Meyer in his speech.

The executive added, “In very critical moments, Mercado Libre has always believed in Chile’s full potential, even with the security concerns that have been quite challenging.”

As Meyer mentioned, Mercado Libre has invested US$2.4 billion in Chile since 2019. These recent announcements coincide with “The Yellow Platform’s” 25th anniversary of operations in Chile.

Regarding this year’s investment, Meyer stated that efforts will focus on enhancing the technology platform; improving logistics to broaden service coverage; “expanding our Mercado Pago financial services to sectors that remain underserved”; and funding certain user benefits, including interest-free installments.

The executive also noted that the company expects to open its new 100,000-square-meter distribution center by the end of this year. On the financial front, Mr. Meyer highlighted the upcoming launch of the Mercado Pago credit card.
