This will be in Valparaíso and required an investment of over US$ 100 million.
Oracle specializes in developing cloud solutions and today it announced that it will open its second data center in Chile called “Oracle Cloud Valparaiso Region”, which required an investment of over US$100 million. This Cloud Data Center compliments the first one in Santiago. Accordingly, Oracle will become the first hyperscale cloud provider to operate two regions in Chile.
The company explained that this project has been located in Valparaíso due to the availability of land, energy, connectivity and its proximity to other consolidated markets. The site was chosen because, "It will soon be connected to the Humboldt submarine cable, which promises to connect Latin America with the Asia-Pacific region for the first time."
Joaquín Ma-Shichoy, Managing Director of Oracle Chile, said, "Launching a second Oracle Cloud Region in Chile is a significant event, as our customers can now take advantage of OCI services, while adopting best practice to secure business continuity and disaster recovery." He added, "Launching Oracle Cloud Valparaiso Region reinforces our commitment to Chile's technological development by helping organizations, including those in highly regulated industries and subject to local data residency requirements, to accelerate their transition to the cloud."
Aisén Etcheverry, the Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation Minister, spoke at the event where she emphasized Chile's progress with this technology. She said, "Chile is leading this industry."
Karla Flores, Invest Chile Director, said, "Launching a second Oracle Cloud Region in Chile is excellent news, due to the impact of cloud computing on our economy and because it strengthens Chile’s position as a digital infrastructure hub in southern Latin America. These investments confirm foreign investors’ confidence in Chile and its opportunities. This Oracle region demonstrates that data centers can be developed outside Santiago. It will strengthen Valparaiso as a digital hub, contribute technology and create employment opportunities there."
This new region is the 48th worldwide within Oracle's distributed cloud strategy and will provide the entire Oracle Cloud suite of over 100 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services and cloud applications. These include Oracle Autonomous Database, MySQL HeatWave Database Service, Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and artificial intelligence infrastructure. This significant investment in Chile and the Latin American region means that Oracle now operates seven public cloud regions in Latin America. These are in Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico, and total over three times the regions operated by any other major hyperscaler.
