The plant currently has 200 employees, of which 70% are women. The expansion of its facilities, which will enable the production of corn-based biscuits and tortillas for the Sanissimio brand in Talagante, will add 100 new employees.
Grupo Bimbo inaugurated an expansion of its plant in Talagante, Santiago Metropolitan Region, enabling local production of its corn-based biscuit and tortilla line, Salmas, which forms part of the Sanissimo brand.
The event was led by Randall Quesada, CEO of Ideal, and was attended by the Mexican Ambassador to Chile, Laura Moreno; the Alternate Director of InvestChile, Juan Pablo Candia; InvestChile Investment Promotion Executive, María Elena Cobo; and the General Manager of the Chilean-Mexican Integration Chamber (CICMEX), Mary Díaz.
The plant, located about 30 miles from Santiago, currently employs 200 people, of which 70% are women. Through this expansion, the company will add 100 new jobs, in addition to the 35 employees who already work in the adjoining plant.
Healthy food production
This business unit is focused on the production of healthy foods that are free from gluten, cholesterol, and artificial colorings. Its products have been sold in Chile for several years, and this new line will enable them to be produced locally.
The inauguration of this production line is a major milestone for Grupo Bimbo, which is increasing its presence in Chile through its subsidiary Ideal. This is the group’s second large investment in the country in 2024.
In January of this year, the expansion of Bimbo’s plant in Chillán Viejo marked another key milestone in the economic development of Chile’s Ñuble Region. The investment of around US$50 million will generate a large number of jobs, estimated at 400 during the construction phase and 250 during the operation phase.
