The firm plans to establish a factory in Chile to develop more healthy foods and, in the future, personal care products, such as creams, and household products such as detergents and dishwashing liquids.
For Priyanka Srinivas from the Indian city of Hyderabad, family tradition meant that food and medicines were directly associated with plants, vegetables, pulses and fruit. “That’s the base of the business,” she says. Together with Sasikanth Chemalamudi, she founded The Live Green Co, a company that uses artificial intelligence to make 100% plant-based foods that are tasty, healthy and environmentally sustainable.
With a team of engineers and biotechnologists, they designed software, known as Charaka, into which they incorporated a database of around 1,000 plants and their properties. “When we formulate products, it recommends 100% plant-based ingredients to replace preservatives and chemical additives,” says Srinivas. They already have two products: the Green Burger and Pancake mix, which are high in protein, fiber, minerals and vitamins. The vegetables come in a biodegradable sachet and, with the addition of a little water, can be shaped into a hamburger or pancake that then has to be cooked, also in water, for 2 to 3 minutes.
Srinivas and her partner brought their enterprise to Chile because it offers stable political and economic conditions and has free trade agreements with over 60 countries. “There is also important support for overseas entrepreneurs through the Start-Up Chile program and InvestChile, which facilitates the work of the investor, and through ProChile, which helps us show our products outside the country, because we want to use Chile as a platform for expanding to other countries in the region,” she says.
The Live Green Co plans to establish a factory in the O’Higgins Region to develop more healthy foods and, in the future, personal care products, such as creams, and household products such as detergents and dishwashing liquids.
According to the director of InvestChile, Cristián Rodríguez, The Live Green Co is an example of the type of overseas companies that Chile needs because, as well as investing, they create jobs and added value. “Using technology to make more nutritious and healthy foods is a global trend so it is good news that products of this type are being made in Chile and, from our country, exported to the rest of the region and - why not? - the world.”
